A command centre for the building. X2 sits on top of your Casambi network and unifies lighting control, energy metering, indoor air quality and emergency lighting compliance into a single interface — commissioned once, then run by the people who occupy the building.

X2 runs on your hardware,

The FRANKCAS X2 Server Appliance is a fanless 1U rackmount controller that sits in the comms room. It talks to your Casambi gateways over the local network and keeps everything running — scenes, schedules, circadian curves, sensor logic and emergency test scheduling all execute on the appliance itself.

If the internet drops, the building carries on behaving exactly as commissioned, and the data recorded during the outage is still there when the link returns. Control and history stay inside the building.

Architecture

Two networks, one dashboard.

Lighting control and life-safety monitoring are different jobs, and X2 keeps them on separate infrastructure. Casambi handles everything the occupant experiences. Tridonic sceneCOM handles the DALI side — emergency lighting testing and air quality sensing. X2 is where the two meet.

Emergency & air quality only

Four sceneCOM application controllers connect directly to the appliance, one per Gigabit port, with no extra network hardware. Up to ten are supported by adding a managed switch.

  • Indoor air quality data via DALI part 306
  • No lighting control — that stays on Casambi
Why split it? Emergency lighting is a life-safety system with a statutory testing regime. Keeping it on dedicated wired DALI hardware, on its own port, means a change to a lighting scene can never affect a compliance record — and the test log survives independently of the wireless network.

Bring devices onto the network, address them, assign them to groups and place them on the plan — in one workflow, with the state of every fitting visible as you go. What was a two-person clipboard exercise becomes a repeatable process with an audit trail.

Floor plans that are live, not laminated

Devices sit where they physically sit. Select a fitting on the plan to see its status, energy draw, group membership and fault history — and to drive it directly. When a tenant reports a problem, you already know which fitting they mean.

Analytics tied to a tariff and a baseline

Real-time power and energy against your actual pence-per-kWh, with grid carbon intensity from the UK National Grid layered on top. Consumption is measured against an ISO 50001 baseline, so savings are an evidenced number rather than a claim in a handover pack.

Schedules and scenes for how the space is used

Time, astronomical clock and occupancy driven scheduling, with scenes that can be recalled from the app, a wall switch, a touch panel or a KNX system. Out-of-hours setbacks are usually where the first third of the savings comes from.

Circadian control, tuned to the occupant

Colour temperature and intensity follow a daily curve, warm in the morning and evening and cool through the middle of the day. In care, education and workplace settings this is increasingly specified — and with tunable white Casambi hardware it needs no additional control wiring.

ISO 50001 with an action plan attached

Energy performance indicators, kWh and kgCO₂ per day, performance against baseline, and an open action list. It turns the standard from an annual documentation exercise into something the building reports on continuously.

Maintenance

Replacement becomes planned work.

X2 forecasts fitting replacement across the estate and sorts it into three buckets — critical, due within a year, and on schedule — mapped onto a rolling twelve-month timeline. Budget conversations start from a list rather than a guess, and failures stop arriving as call-outs.
